Scott R. Melrose is the Principal Landscape Architect and owner of the firm. With over 24 years of experience, he provides valuable direction to the team and oversees all design work. Mr. Melrose received his Bachelor of Science degree in Landscape Architecture from Cornell University. He is licensed in the state of North Carolina, South Carolina and Tennessee. During his career, Scott has worked on over 80 academic projects, 350 residential, 300 large-scale land planning projects, 350 site planning projects and over 50 park and recreation projects. Mr. Melrose established the firm in 1994.

Sarah Davis received her Bachelor of Landscape Architecture from Ball State University in 2003 and joined the firm in January of 2004 after working with the Cincinnati Zoo and Botanical Garden’s horticulture department. Sarah is a landscape designer with experience in mountain development and graphic design. Additionally she works in assisting with all phases of design from master planning down to designing specific site elements, with a specialty in signage and wayfinding. Sarah hopes to gain licensure as a landscape architect with the state of North Carolina as soon her four year apprenticeship is complete.

Matt received his Bachelor of Science in Landscape Architecture from West Virginia University in 1996 and joined Melrose Design Group in May of 1999. He is licensed in the state of North Carolina and has led many key projects with the Firm. Matt's experience includes large-scale land planning and community design, conservation easement planning and implementation, ecological restoration and enhancement, stormwater design, state and federal permitting and site planning for parks, greenways, commercial, and institutional development as well as residential garden design. He is very knowledgeable with low-impact mountain compatible design and the importance of striking a balance between development and conservation. As a Senior Landscape Architect for Melrose Design Group, Matt oversees all aspects of project development from overall site selection and feasibility study through preliminary design and implementation. He has worked with the City of Brevard, NC on their downtown streetscape redesign and greenway implementation, many private landowners who have placed conservation easements on their property and is currently working with Queens Gap, a large scale resort residential community which will include a Jack Nicklaus Signature golf course.

In his free time, Matt enjoys exploring the mountains of Western North Carolina on his mountain bike, snowboarding, playing ice hockey and experiencing the local culture Asheville has to offer.

Marlene K. Graves

Marlene Graves is the office manager at Melrose Design Group, PA. She provides financial analysis, cost reporting, and fund accounting. In addition to day-to-day accounting, Marlene assists the team with project budget development and tracking, statement preparation, and preparation of individual contracts.

Andy Otten

Andy Otten joined Melrose Design Group in 2002. He received his BS in Landscape Architecture from North Carolina A&T State University in 1995 and his Master of Landscape Architecture from Penn State University in 1999. Prior to joining Melrose Design Group, Andy worked in private practices and in the non-profit sector in Raleigh and Philadelphia, PA. His experience includes large-scale planning and community design, environmental restoration, sustainable stormwater design, park master planning, and commercial, institutional and residential site planning. As a Partner and Senior Landscape Architect for Melrose Design Group, Andy guides projects through all development phases, from preliminary design to construction observation.
